cheers,
alex.
I am looking for gyrotonics in Shanghai, but it seems it doesn’t exist. Is doing pilates on reformers the same thing?
Thanks in advance for your help,.
Diana
FYI GYROTONIC® with no “S” has a lot in-common with Pilates. Many GYROTONIC instructors are also certified Pilates Professionals. Gyrotonic originated in the dance world and evolved from the Pilates Method and the principals it was founded on. I know some very accomplished Pilates & Yoga Professionals that also teach Gyrotonic’s and sing it’s praises. To answer your question Pilates & Gyrotonis movements are not exactly the same but they have a lot in common. Hey Eric and Alex! My sister and I lived in Japan for 4 years, so even though we both speak the language, I remember how much I hated signing up for things and going through that whole procedure. I’m checking to see if any of the students we have certified over the years are from Kobe, and I’ll get back to you. In the meantime, we just launched a website with full length Pilates workouts that are absolutely free to view! Check out UltimatePilatesWorkouts.com. We even have equipment workouts if a studio would just let you rent the equipment!
Good luck over there! Living in Japan isn’t easy, so it is good that you are looking for ways to enjoy yourselves! Take care!

Hello,
My students often have cramping in the feet during class. I would usually attest this problem to lack of hydration, but it is happening an a variety of students (age and fitness levels), so I am a little concerned. Other than trying to overly point the toes, rather thank extending with energy, what is it that could be causing this cramping?
Thank you,
Jen
Cramping in the feet can be attributed to low levels of potassium and calcium. But in most cases it is due to muscle imbalance caused by inappropriate footwear that actually created a weakness in the 33 small muscles of the foot.
People with no regular athletic activities who where tight shoes and high heels are especially venerable to cramping especially when they start doing the foot work advocated by the Pilates Method.

Joseph Pilates addressed this problem by invented an incredible piece of equipment called the Foot Corrector (available at Peak Pilates) and the Toe Exercises ( available at Gratz Pilates) Both stimulating the muscles, ligaments and tendons attached to the metatarsals.
Jillian Hessel, a renowned Pilates teacher, features an article in Pilates Style Magazine about foot exercises “Foot Fitness “Build a better body from the ground up by nurturing — not neglecting — your feet”. Simple exercises that you can do in the privacy of your home guaranteed to help balance foot muscles. These exercises may initially cause ;-O cramping but should eventually prevent it
“With your feet in good shape you will always stand firm”
