Danica Patrick is first woman in the world to ever win a major IndyCar race. To enhance her career on and off the Indi race track she incorporates Pilates Mat work into her daily workout to keep her looking and feeling great! “I work out daily. My workout is a balance of building strength — especially upper-body strength — and stamina, endurance. I use free weights, I run, and I do yoga and Pilates ”. And it shows…
She already had become a major sports figure after nearly winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2005, her rookie year. Now she is the IndyCar Series’ most popular driver and finished third in this year’s Indy 500.
“Nothing makes me happier than doing my job well and going out on the track and performing. So everything else I take really seriously, taking care of myself and working out and staying in shape, drinking milk! That’s all part of my drive for success.”
“There’s nothing like racing season to get you really physically fit because you’re doing your job, but you have to maintain during the winter. To keep her workout fresh, she changes her routine at least twice a year and works out with a personal trainer.
In addition to free weights yoga and Pilates mat work she also enjoys running outside. “There’s only so many years you can run on a treadmill before you want to start ripping your hair out….. its so boring, plus I get a little tan outside.” Working out is something that you have to do day in and day out to be the best you can be.
Patrick, whose IndyCar Series contract expires after this season, says she believes in her ability to drive the bulkier and heavier stock cars used in NASCAR.
“I definitely thought you’d go straight from the top of one sport to the next. But in [listening to] people’s advice and what they think is right, they say take your time and start a little slower than that. ”
“At some point being stubborn and listen to people, so if that’s the route I go, I would be open to doing some lower-formula stuff before making the move. I would take that advice.” I may never go to NASCAR at all. I’m not really sure right now. We’ll see.”
